Fundeon is a knowledge centre for the construction industry in the Netherlands. To be able to effectively prepare Dutch construction-industry professionals for their future needs, and to ensure that they have the most up-to-date knowledge on technical solutions in the construction industry, a complete eLearning infrastructure is needed.

Fundeon wanted to deploy a “life-long learning” solution inside the Dutch construction sector, delivering focused and quick training activities to fill specific knowledge gaps, keeping professionals aligned with new working methods and technologies.

The training materials needed to adapt to new formats of interactive, rich-media webbased content. Prior to the implementation of the new solution, Fundeon’s training materials were all paper-based. In addition, Fundeon aimed to consolidate an integral infrastructure to aid all forms of training – distant learning (self-training, WBT), ILT, apprenticeship as well as to manage the professional certifications of the trainees. The infrastructure should provide Fundeon’s experts and training managers with tools to easily and quickly create, store, manage and deliver digital content.

The implemented solution enables delivery of content via different channels, such as printable pdf, classroom-based (offline) and web-based (online) training. Flash LO models were tailored to Fundeon’s requirements to provide rich media content. Plug-ins have been developed for rapid eLearning content creation. This makes converting PowerPoint training materials into Flash learning objects quick and easy.

The complete learning solution offered together with our ex-subsidiary, which has now become Percepium, includes an LCMS, LMS and ePortfolio Management System. The solution for LMS, ePortfolio and apprenticeship management is based on the Percepium LMS, ePortfolio and Skills Management Solution, and covers the entire cycle, from learning content authoring to delivery based on identified, personal skill gaps. The ePortfolio system has been fully customized and tailored to meet Fundeon’s specific needs.

The solution is fully standard-compliant (SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004), which ensures the real-time information transfer between the ePortfolio system and LCMS and LMS platforms. Fundeon is able to manage information, such as personal details, course enrollments and tracking information across all these systems.

Thanks to the extended training offering, Fundeon has increased its market share. The trainees have experienced higher perceived quality of training materials and thanks to better instructional design, the training effectiveness has increased.

Due to the ability to deliver of relevant content to fill personal-skill gaps of the trainees, and the use of a rich mix of training approaches (apprenticeship, ILT, self-managed learning), Fundeon has been able to reduce costs, as it has been able to optimize content creation and management processes (template-based approach, rapid eLearning, reuse of existing LOs).

The integrated solution allows Fundeon to provide timely responses to the ever-changing work-force market in the construction industry, and it has helped Fundeon to reach the strategic goal of becoming a vocational training leader in the Dutch construction industry.

Fundeon is the Vocational Centre for the construction industry in the Netherlands. It offers a variety of products and services for the construction industry, focusing on employment and training, and provides the link between education and business in this specific industry, which requires comprehensive and high quality services in the areas of recruitment, training and retaining staff.

Fundeon also covers, on behalf of employers and employees, various tasks and services for the construction industry. These services include advising companies and workers in construction industry in the area of training and career development and vocational training. Fundeon also promotes learning and working in construction.
