The Learning Industry Sputnik Challenge: How Can We Get Europes Learning Industry (First) to the Moon and Back in the Next Decade?
Fabrizio Cardinali, Chair ELIG
Delivered by the Chair of ELIG, Fabrizio Cardinali, one of Europes leading experts on technology enhanced learning and long time entrepreneur in the area, this presentation will draw parallels between the worlds historic industry challenges, such as the one faced by the Aerospace Industry in the USA during the cold war at its sudden awakening after the launch of the Sputnik from former Soviet Union, and the peculiar challenges and opportunities faced today by Europes learning industry in its need to wake up and help Europe survive global markets and workforce competition.
The presentation will highlight the key need to intersect creativity and innovation to win such challenge, a result theorized as a Medici Effect by Prof Johansson at Harvard in its attempt to describe the beneficial role of creativity during the first perfect knowledge storm that happened in Europe during the Renaissance period and link it to the key role of innovative policy makers and creative thinkers in triggering such change in a stagnating European economy towards a Renaissance 2.0. The session will also raise some of the essential calls to action for the Learning Industry to effect a Renaissance 2.0.
